Hard-working Shelby basketball standout Bishop Lee earns Player of the Week distinction

The senior forward holds off Oakridge bowler Mike Hruskach, who rolled a 300 game last week.

At times this season, Bishop Lee has been carrying Shelby’s boys basketball team on his back.

This week, his supporters carried him to victory in the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll.

Lee finished at the top of the pack, winning the poll featuring six winter sports athletes for their performances spanning Feb. 6-11, 2023.

Lee racked up 2,222 of 5,446 total votes to hold off Oakridge sophomore bowler Mike Hruskach (1,725 votes), who rolled a 300 game during a regional tune-up tournament last Saturday at Sherman Bowling Center.

Coming off a strong football season as a receiver for Shelby’s football team, Lee is having a nice basketball season as well.

A rugged, 6-foot-2 senior forward who hustles his way to points in the paint and rebounds, posted big numbers in a pair of games for the Tigers last week.

In last Tuesday’s 66-49 home win over Montague in WMC nondivisional play, Lee had 22 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and a steal. In last Friday’s 59-54 home loss to Ravenna in WMC Rivers Division action, he accounted for 28 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
