Hart high jumper Addi Hovey wins tight CatchMark SportsNet Player of Week fan poll

Pirates sophomore finishes with 783 votes to edge North Muskegon’s Jerry Wiegers, who had 764 votes.

Hart sophomore Addi Hovey and North Muskegon junior Jerry Wiegers are two of the better competitors when it comes to West Michigan Conference track and field.

They went at it in this week’s CatchMark SportsNet WMC Player of the Week fan poll, too.

Hovey edged Wiegers in a very tight vote to take top honors in the poll, which recognized six WMC spring sports student-athletes for their performances in events spanning May 8-13, 2023.

Hovey finished with 783 votes compared to 764 for Wiegers.

Hovey shattered her personal and school record of 5 feet, 5.5 inches in high jump by clearing 5-11 during the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division meet last Friday at Holton. That mark ties the 5-foot-10 Hovey for fifth nationally in girls high school high jump in the 2023 season. She also ran legs on Hart’s first-place 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams in the WMC Rivers meet.
