Some nights, one player completely controls the game. Tuesday night belonged to Josey Jefferies. The Holton ace was nearly untouchable across both games, overpowering Hesperia hitters and setting the tone from the circle as the Red Devils rolled to a doubleheader sweep, 11-1 and 14-2. With every inning, Jefferies tightened her grip on the game, turning what could have been competitive matchups into a showcase of dominance.
Game 1: Holton 11, Hesperia 1
Jefferies wasted no time establishing control in the opener. From the first inning, she attacked the zone and kept Hesperia off balance, mixing speed and location to pile up strikeouts. By the end of the game, she had recorded 15 strikeouts while allowing just two hits, never allowing Hesperia to build any sustained momentum. With that kind of command in the circle, Holton’s offense was free to go to work.
The Red Devils strung together timely hits and consistently put runners in scoring position, gradually pulling away as the game progressed. Mia Giddings led the charge with three hits and three RBI, while Chloe McKee and Emrey Bourdo each added multi-hit performances. Holton’s steady offensive pressure, combined with Jefferies’ dominance, made the opener one-sided from start to finish.
Game 2: Holton 14, Hesperia 2
If there was any thought of Hesperia adjusting in Game 2, Jefferies quickly shut it down. She returned to the circle and picked up right where she left off, striking out 10 more batters and once again controlling the pace of the game. While Hesperia managed to push across a couple of runs, they were never able to string together enough offense to truly threaten.
Meanwhile, Holton’s bats stayed hot. The Red Devils came out aggressive and never let up, turning the nightcap into another decisive win. Adela Leonard delivered the biggest offensive performance of the game, collecting three hits and driving in six runs. Airianna Sampson added two RBI, while Jefferies, Victoria Vallejo, Zoey Barkley, and Giddings all contributed hits.
By the final out, Jefferies had totaled 25 strikeouts across the doubleheader, capping off a performance that highlighted both her endurance and dominance.
Holton’s combination of elite pitching and consistent offense proved too much, as the Red Devils controlled both games and walked away with a statement sweep.
