Ludington volleyball player Maddy Vaara wins Player of Week poll for Sept. 25-30, 2023

Maddy Vaara is taking her volleyball talents to Ferris State University, having committed to the Bulldogs.

First, the 6-foot outside hitter has some unfinished business with her Ludington volleyball team.

Vaara is a force at the net for the Orioles. This week, she netted more votes than anybody else in the CatchMark SportsNet Player of the Week fan poll.

Six West Michigan Conference fall sports athletes were recognized for their performances spanning Sept. 25-30, 2023. Vaara finished with 930 of 2,041 total votes.

Manistee football player Kaden Kott finished runner-up in the Player of the Week fan poll with 616 votes.

Vaara helped Ludington get past Montague in a key WMC Lakes Division volleyball match last Tuesday. She packed the stat sheet with 21 kills, 16 digs, four blocks, two assists, and one ace. The Orioles defeated the host Wildcats in four sets, 21-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-12.

On the season, Vaara leads Ludington with 390 kills, 182 digs, 31 blocks, and 25 aces. The Orioles are 31-6-2 overall and 4-0 in the WMC Lakes Division.

Last season, Vaara was voted the CatchMark SportsNet WMC Player of the Year.
