NORTON SHORES – Seven girls high school tennis teams in the Muskegon area duked it out on Mona Shores’ home courts Wednesday with the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association title on the line.

Play actually began Saturday (May 6) but it was suspended because of rain.

Powerhouse North Muskegon was seeking a fourth-straight GMAA championship, but the Norse fell just short of that goal.

In a tight battle among three teams, Mona Shores came out on top, followed by North Muskegon and Reeths-Puffer. The Sailors won championships in two of the four singles flights and in three of the four doubles flights.

Mona Shores won five of eight flights to take home the trophy.
