Montague boys basketball team pulls out tight victory over improving Orchard View

Montague’s boys basketball team is getting accustomed to down-to-the-wire games.

After winning one Tuesday and dropping one Wednesday, Montague got back in the win column with a 59-58 victory over visiting Orchard View Friday night.

The win improves the Wildcats to 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division. The Cardinals are 4-11 and 1-6, respectively.

Montague raced to a 21-9 first-quarter lead and held a 34-24 halftime advantage before Orchard View stormed back with a 21-14 third quarter and 34-25 second half to make it tight at the end.

Seniors Paul Olson and Owen Raeth paces Montague with 13 points apiece. Junior Kellan Francis scored 10 points for the Wildcats, while senior Jakob Heiss and sophomore Cole Herremans added seven apiece.

For Orchard View, Cari Flowers scored a game-high 15 points, while Keith McAlister had 12 and BJ Sewell 11.

It was Teacher Appreciation Night at Montague, where Wildcats players were introduced alongside educators during a pregame ceremony.
