The Whitehall boys basketball express, led by engineer Camden Thompson, continued full speed ahead in a nonleague challenge against visiting Grand Rapids Covenant Christian Friday night.

Thompson packed the stat sheet again with 28 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, and four steals in powering Whitehall to a 67-59 victory over Covenant Christian that improved the Vikings’ record to 16-0.

Whitehall gradually increased its lead, going up 20-plus at one point before reserves entered the game in the fourth quarter against Covenant Christian (11-6), a small-school perennial power that beat the Vikings 75-71 last season.

Thompson, a 6-foot-5 junior wing, shot 8-of-17 from the floor and 12-for-15 from the free-throw line.

Whitehall junior forward Kal Koehler continued his strong play with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go with three rebounds.

Whitehall senior guard Camar Ready added seven points, two assists, and two steals, while senior guard DJ Jamison had six points, six assists, and two steals.

For balanced Covenant Christian, Ben Elzinga led the way with 11 points and Logan Holstege scored nine.

This is a big week for Whitehall, which hosts Big Rapids (11-4) tonight and Montague (10-6) on Thursday.
