Competition of the Week

Montague-Whitehall girls soccer clash selected as CSN Competition of the Week (April 11-16)

The 5 p.m. Tuesday match at Montague also will be livestreamed for free by CatchMark.

A couple weeks ago, Montague’s girls soccer team was set to open its season at home against future West Michigan Conference opponent Fremont.

That match, which was selected the CatchMark SportsNet Competition of the Week for March 28-April 2, was postponed because of inclement weather.

Montague is getting another shot to be in the spotlight, and it could not be against a more fitting opponent. Tuesday’s 5 p.m. home clash with arch-rival Whitehall has been selected as the CSN Competition of the Week for April 11-16.

While coach Kara Raeth and the Wildcats are eager to take the field for the first time this season, the Vikings have already played two games.

Whitehall is off to an 0-2 start with road losses to Coopersville (6-1) and Fruitport (4-1). Led by the school’s all-time leading goal scorer in Maggie Evans, the Vikings are still trying to mesh under the direction of new coach Adam Prince, who was highly successful at Western Michigan Christian.

Montague is coming off a respectable 12-5 season in 2021, including a 5-2 record in the West Michigan Conference. Whitehall was 9-7 last season, also finishing 5-2 in the league.

In addition to Tuesday’s match being covered by CSN as Competition of the Week, the Montague-Whitehall contest will be livestreamed for free on the CatchMark SportsNet YouTube channel. If you like the content on that channel, then please subscribe.
