Second-round playoff games will be held this Friday and Saturday.

The 11-player Michigan high school football playoff field started out at 256 teams.

Now, it’s down to 128. Eight of those squads are from the Muskegon area, which have advanced to the district finals this coming weekend.

Here is the schedule for area teams Friday, Nov. 5, and Saturday, Nov. 6, followed by details on the CatchMark SportsNet Game of the Week:

CATCHMARK SPORTSNET GAME OF THE WEEK

Montague (7-3) at Reed City (9-1), 7 p.m. Friday: This district finals showdown is an interesting matchup between styles: Montague’s ability to spread the ball to its playmakers in space vs. Reed City’s full-house “T.”

Two weeks ago, Reed City hosted Whitehall and defeated the Vikings, 38-28. That was one week after Whitehall beat Montague, 34-14, in the “Battle for the Bell” game.

Montague leads the all-time series with Reed City, 10-1. The last time these teams met, the Wildcats crushed the Coyotes, 42-0, in the 2019 season opener. The year before, Reed City pulled away for a 34-13 triumph over Montague.

Montague opened the playoffs on Friday with a 41-7 home victory over Central Montcalm. Meanwhile, Reed City cruised past visiting Manistee, 36-14.

Reed City plays in the same league as Central Montcalm, the Central State Activities Association Gold Division. The Coyotes handled Central Montcalm, 50-15, in Week 6.

In The Associated Press’ final state rankings released last week, Reed City was No. 6 in Division 6, while Montague was unranked.

‘COACHES CORNER’ AND OTHER FEATURES

“Coaches Corners” shows with Montague’s Justin Dennett and Whitehall’s Tony Sigmon both will be live-streamed on the CatchMark SportsNet YouTube channel tonight. Montague’s is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Whitehall’s, which is typically slated for Sunday night, is set for 7:15 p.m.

Senior tight end/linebacker Colton Blankstrom will be the featured guest on Montague’s Coaches Corner, while senior safety Max Brown will be the special guest on Whitehall’s.

Also keep your eye out for the West Michigan 1st & Ten show at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. Former Montague football coach Pat Collins will be the featured guest.

Additionally, CatchMark’s Brent Raeth, Zach Zweigle and Scott DeCamp will be recording a podcast that will be posted at catchmarksports.com this week.
