Muskegon Stays Perfect, Hands Hudsonville First Loss in Gritty Battle

Their next two games are on the road against top opponents in the state…

Two of the top basketball programs in the state collided in a clash of undefeated teams, but only one could keep their spotless record. Muskegon emerged victorious, holding off a late rally by Hudsonville to secure a 63-56 win and remain undefeated this season.

At halftime, the Big Reds led by just nine, up 29-20 over the Eagles. The third quarter proved pivotal as Muskegon caught fire, pouring in 17 points to extend their lead to 46-35. Hudsonville refused to back down, storming back in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to just five points. Despite the late surge, Muskegon held firm and closed out the game up 7.

Now 7-0, Muskegon shifts its focus to a challenging road stretch. They take on Byron Center (7-3) on Friday before a marquee top-10 showdown against Brother Rice (10-1) on Saturday at East Kentwood—two games that promise to test the Big Reds.

Keashaun Johnson led the charge for Muskegon, lighting up the scoreboard with 23 points, 15 of which came in a dominant first half. Elija Langston added 14 points, while Darryl Thompkins Jr. and James Martin contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively, showcasing a well-balanced attack.

Hudsonville, though falling short, put up an impressive fight with balanced scoring of their own. Joey Miller led the Eagles with 17 points, followed by Jovaan Daniels with 14. Justin Fisher and Isaiah Hamlet each chipped in 11 points.
