Montague gets much needed win on the backs of Schneider, Herremans and Francis

Montague wins big over Newaygo.

NEWAYGO – After dropping their last six games and enduring a tough (1-7) start to the season, the Wildcats secured a convincing 71-42 win over Newaygo. Senior Cortland Schnieder led the team in scoring on Tuesday with 21 points.

Junior Cole Herremans and senior Evan Francis both contributed double-digit points, with Herremans scoring 13 and Francis adding 11.

Montague started strong, leading 23-10 after the first quarter, and maintained their momentum throughout the game, leaving Newaygo with no breathing room.

Following the win, Montague head coach Nick Thaler said, “This week, we had some tough discussions as a team, and I really ripped them pillar to post. I felt we weren’t playing tough enough and were letting everyone impose their will on us. That’s not how we do things, and this is exactly the response I was looking for. Great team win.”

With the victory, the Wildcats improve to (2-7, 1-3), while Newaygo drops to (4-4, 2-1 CSA-Red).

Montague will conclude their four-game road stretch with a trip north to Manistee on Friday.
