It was a beautiful spring evening in North Muskegon Tuesday night, though steady winds added another challenge to an already intense West Michigan Conference showdown between the Norse and Ludington Orioles. In a fast-paced, highly competitive battle that at times became chaotic, North Muskegon stayed composed and consistent across every area of the field to earn a 3-1 victory and secure a share of the conference championship.
North Muskegon 3, Ludington 1
From the opening whistle, both teams played with urgency and energy. The pace was quick throughout the night, with stretches where the match became frantic as players battled for possession and momentum. Both teams showed the ability to reset, regroup, and regain control after hectic sequences, creating an entertaining and highly competitive atmosphere.
North Muskegon struck first with 32:25 remaining in the opening half when Dylan Leonard finished off a strong attacking sequence with an assist from Alex Johnson to give the Norse a 1-0 advantage.
Ludington answered later in the half after earning a free kick outside the box. Standout attacker Hestyn Stowe delivered the equalizer to tie the game 1-1 heading into halftime. Stowe proved to be one of the most dangerous players on the field all evening, using her speed, creativity, and aggressive attacking style to challenge the Norse defense repeatedly.
The Orioles brought a very physical style of play, often turning the contest into a tough, hard-fought battle. Ludington’s pressure and aggressive play created problems at times, but North Muskegon remained steady throughout the field. The Norse controlled much of the midfield possession, created quality attacking chances, and consistently responded whenever momentum shifted.

North Muskegon’s attack generated more opportunities throughout the night, outshooting Ludington overall, though both teams had legitimate scoring chances. Ludington goalkeeper Cambria Britton kept the Orioles within striking distance with an impressive performance in net, recording seven saves on 10 shots on goal. The Norse also had a goal called back because of an offside ruling.

Midway through the second half, North Muskegon regained the lead after a handball in the box resulted in a penalty kick opportunity. Emmy Creed calmly converted the PK with 19:04 remaining to put the Norse ahead 2-1.
As Ludington pushed numbers forward late trying to equalize, North Muskegon found an insurance goal with just over six minutes remaining when Creed added her second goal of the night to secure the 3-1 victory.
Defensively, the Norse turned in one of their stronger performances of the season, especially considering the challenge presented by Stowe and Ludington’s physical pressure. North Muskegon’s ability to stay organized and composed in key moments ultimately proved to be the difference.
With the postseason beginning this week, both teams appear well-prepared for district play. North Muskegon enters districts with momentum, balance, and confidence after finishing the regular season 13-5 overall and 9-1 in conference play. The Norse showed they can control possession, create dangerous chances, and handle physical opponents under pressure.

With strong goalkeeping and dynamic playmakers like Stowe, Ludington remains a dangerous postseason team capable of making a deep district run.
