North Muskegon’s Troy McManus rallies for CatchMark SportsNet Player of Week win

Norse senior baseball standout edges Ravenna softball star for top honors in May 1-6, 2023, fan poll.

Troy McManus and North Muskegon’s baseball team was in control from the start in their Greater Muskegon Athletic Association tournament finals victory over Mona Shores.

The Norsemen defeated the Sailors, 12-2 in six innings, last Saturday at Marsh Field.

In the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week competition, McManus and his supporters had to rally. In a tight battle with Ravenna softball standout Emma Herremans, McManus jumped in front in the last hour or two and remained atop the fan poll when it closed at noon today (Friday, May 12, 2023).

McManus finished with 1,470 of 3,701 total votes in the poll, which included six WMC spring sports student-athletes for their performances in events spanning May 1-6. Herremans, who helped Ravenna’s softball team win the GMAA Tier 1 tourney title, amassed 1,439 votes.

McManus was key in the Norsemen capturing the GMAA baseball title last Saturday, doing the job on the mound, at the plate and on the basepaths.

In the win over Mona Shores, the left-handed pitcher allowed two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and four walks in 5 2/3 innings. He also doubled and drove in three runs in the game.

In a 6-0 GMAA semifinals win over Reeths-Puffer, McManus went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. In a 4-3 quarterfinals win over Whitehall, he scored the tying run.
