Oakridge catcher Evan Miller makes plays, earns votes in Player of the Week fan poll

Eagles multi-sport athlete edges another super sophomore in Hart track star Jessica Jazwinski.

In watching Evan Miller compete, whether it be in football, basketball or baseball, you’ll see a level of maturity from the Oakridge multi-sport standout.

He does not play like a sophomore.

Miller makes plays. This week, he earned votes, too, en route to top honors in the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll.

Miller finished with 849 votes in edging out another sensational sophomore, Hart running star Jessica Jazwinski (628 votes), in the poll recognizing six WMC spring sports student-athletes for their performances spanning May 15-20, 2023.

Miller, who mans the catcher position for Oakridge’s baseball team, had a nice week at the plate. In last Tuesday’s 9-2 and 8-3 sweep of Sparta, Miller doubled and tripled in the first game and he scored three runs in the second game. During 5-4 and 2-1 losses to North Muskegon in the “Friday Night Lights” series at Marsh Field, he tripled, scored two runs and had an RBI in Game 1 and tripled with an RBI in Game 2.

This week, Miller helped Oakridge earn a share of the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division title in a split with Montague.
