Eagles fall in pre district to West Catholic 32-14. Let’s back track to what got them there. Oakridge finished the regular season (4-5) and just barely found themselves in the playoffs. With wins over Orchard View, Manistee, and Fremont, the Eagles went into a must-win game against Ravenna in week 8.
Junior, Logan Huston propelled the Eagles to the playoffs as the QB and maintain a run heavy offensive attack. In the season opener, Huston led the eagles to a win while only passing twice.
Bryson Stephenson was the centerpiece of Oakridge’s offense and was Huston’s right hand man. In the week one win over Orchard View, Stephenson rushed for 194 yards and five touchdowns. With just 14 carries, Stephenson boasted an average of 13.8 yards per carry. The Eagles would go on to win big 42-6.
Oakridge would then fall to Montague for the first time since 2021, 14-7. The Eagles trailed 14-0 heading into the 4th quarter. Stephenson would put them on the board to keep the game within reach. Montague would slam the door on 4th down late in the game to secure the win.
The following week the Eagles would pick up its second of four wins against Manistee 49-22.
A loss against Ludington would set Oakridge back to .500 heading into a crucial week five game against Fremont. They would win this game in blowout fashion 56-6 and would put them at a (3-2) record heading into the final stretch.
Back-to-back losses against WMC opponent Whitehall then Belding the following week left the Eagles facing Ravenna in a must-win game.
Oakridge would dominate its week eight game against the Bulldogs posting a shutout for the first time since 2020, 24-0.
With that win Oakridge secured its spot in the field of 32 in division five.
Unfortunately for them, they matched up against GR West Catholic who beat them a season ago 45-0 in the district final. The game was tight for the first half with West Catholic leading 19-14. The Falcons held the Eagles scoreless in the second half and went on to win 32-14.
