MUSKEGON — In a hard-fought West Michigan Conference Lakes Division boys basketball game Friday night, Oakridge used more hot shooting from Brody Jennings and a strong cast around him for a 62-56 victory over visiting Monday.

Peyton Ruel led all scorers with 20 points to go with six assists in powering Oakridge to a 2-0 start to the season. Jennings match his season-opening output with 17 points and five more 3-pointers.

Evan Miller chipped in 11 points and two assists for the Eagles, while Trever Jones added eight points and eight rebounds. Evan Jozsa had six rebounds for Oakridge, while Bryson Stephenson notched five assists.

For Montague (1-1), Owen Raeth led the way with 17 points. Isaiah Atchison finished with 14 points, while Kellen Francis had 11 points and Jakob Heiss nine.

This wasn’t just another high school basketball game; it was an edge-of-your-seat, who’s-going-to-take-it kind of night in the West Michigan Conference. The energy in the gym was electric, with fans from both sides bringing the noise.

Next up for these teams: Oakridge visits Holton on Tuesday (Dec. 5), while Montague hosts Newaygo on the same night.
