WHITEHALL 68, ORCHARD VIEW 43: Whitehall used balanced scoring and tough defense in posting a season-opening victory over host Orchard View in WMC Lakes Division play.

MANISTEE 48, FREMONT 40: Visiting Manistee improved to 3-0 on the young season in this low-scoring WMC Lakes Division opener. “The story of the game was our inability to make shots,” Fremont coach Adam Bowen said. “Manistee was in a zone all game and we had good looks but just couldn’t get anything to fall.”

NORTH MUSKEGON 62, RAVENNA 47: Host North Muskegon used a 17-7 second-quarter scoring advantage and 20-15 edge in the fourth to separate from Ravenna in this WMC Rivers Division opener.

“A good, close game throughout the first quarter,” said Norse coach Chuck Rypstra, whose team led 12-11 after the opening quarter. “They have some size and were able to do some damage inside. We countered it by making seven 3s. We had a putback dunk to end the first half and were able to hold them off through the second half.”
