Tigers Set the Tone, Area Teams Battle Through Busy Midweek Stretch

The energy was unmistakable Wednesday night in Shelby.

From the opening whistle, the Tigers pressed forward with confidence, controlling possession, attacking with speed, and forcing Oakridge to respond under constant pressure. But despite the final 3-0 scoreline, this was no easy win, it was a match filled with momentum swings, clutch saves, and a defensive stand that kept things tense deep into the second half.

Shelby ultimately pulled away for the West Michigan Conference victory, but Oakridge made them earn every bit of it.

Senior Annie Stark sparked the Tigers early, using her speed to break through the Eagles’ defense and net two first-half goals. Both came off well-timed runs and precise ball movement, including a key assist from freshman Brixtyn Friedman that split the back line.

Even with Shelby controlling much of the first half, Oakridge stayed within striking distance thanks to a standout performance from senior goalkeeper Alayna Weiss, who racked up 14 saves against 17 shots on goal. Time and again, she turned away quality chances to keep the Eagles alive.

After halftime, Oakridge flipped the script.

Led by junior Sienna Eacker, the Eagles pushed forward with urgency, generating nine of their 10 shots in the second half. Their passing sharpened, their runs improved, and they began dictating stretches of play. But Shelby’s defense, anchored by goalkeeper Brylee Friedman, held firm.

Senior Kylie Brown added an insurance goal in the second half to seal the win and secure Shelby’s second straight conference shutout. The Tigers improved to 3-0-1 overall (2-0 WMC), continuing an impressive early-season run built on balance and execution.
