Montague, Oakridge, and Whitehall represented in CatchMark Player of Week series

After a break for the holiday season, the CatchMark Player of the Week brought to you by VanDyk Mortage is back. The returning first week was an exciting one from a spectator viewpoint as several impressive performances were on display. The CatchMark SportsNet team narrowed it down to three stellar candidates.

Nominations and voting will be released each Wednesday at 8 a.m. and voting will close Friday at noon. Shortly after, the winner of the CatchMark Player of the Week will be announced.

Without further ado, here are the nominees for the CatchMark Player of the Week series brought to you by VanDyk Mortgage. Read the description of each player’s performance and cast your vote at the bottom of the story.

Cale Coppess, Montague

The undefeated Montague standout wrestler competed at the Lloyd Cogswell Memorial Invitational last Saturday. The senior won his flight in the 135 weight class and finished 5-0 on the day to improve to 19-0 overall. Coppess is the leading wrestler for the Wildcats who continue to improve at each event. Montague had four individual champions at the event.

Garrett Wever, Oakridge

The senior guard for Oakridge had an influential performance early last week as Oakridge picked up their first conference victory against Mason County Central. Wever paced the Eagles with 21 points, 9 boards, and 4 assists against the Spartans. Additionally, the three year varsity player had 8 points in a tough loss against rival Ravenna later in the week.

Camden Thompson, Whitehall

As a freshman, Thompson participated in the first two basketball games of his varsity career last week. The young gun missed his first five games after suffering a preseason ankle injury. Thompson led the Vikings in both league wins last week. Thompson scored 9 points in their rivalry matchup with Montague, and caught fire at Hart where he scored a co-game high 27 points.
