We see you, Elle Moran: Resilient Montague athlete nets honor

Last week was a very emotional and trying one for Montague sophomore Elle Moran.

Moran lost her father, Troy Moran, on April 27 but she continued to hold down her midfield spot on the Wildcats’ girls soccer team.

White Lake and surrounding communities wrapped her in their collective arms amid the tragedy. Meanwhile, she received a big show of support in the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week poll.

Moran won the Player of the Week poll with 5,653 votes, picking up nearly 50 percent of the total tally that reached 11,740. Shelby baseball player DayDay Garcia was runner-up with a strong 3,151 votes in the fan poll, which recognized six spring sports athletes from the conference for their performances April 29-May 4, 2024.

Last Monday (April 29), Elle Moran contributed to Montague’s highly emotional 5-4 win over rival Whitehall. On Wednesday (May 1), she helped Montague defeat Oakridge, 2-0. On Friday (May 3) — one day after her father was laid to rest — Moran scored two goals in her team’s dominant 7-0 nonleague home win over Newaygo.
