West Michigan Conference boys basketball: Roundup from Dec. 20, 2022

Hesperia picks up first win of the season, beating rival Holton.

On a moderately busy night of West Michigan Conference boys basketball action Tuesday (Dec. 20), one league newcomer picked up its first victory of the season.

Hesperia edged visiting Holton, 48-45, in a WMC Rivers Division rivalry matchup.

Here is a roundup of games played by WMC teams on Tuesday:

NORTH MUSKEGON 66, SHELBY 41: Brandon Rypstra hit four of his five 3-point attempts en route to a team-high 16 points in leading balanced North Muskegon to a runaway victory over host Shelby in the CatchMark SportsNet Game of the Week.

HESPERIA 48, HOLTON 45: A balanced scoring attack led host Hesperia to its first victory of the season and it came against its rival. “Last night we played up to our potential,” Hesperia coach Andrew Worcester said. “We made a lot of improvements offensively and we trusted each other on defense. I’m happy for our guys. Last night’s win was huge for our team, our coaching staff, our school and community.”
