The Orioles sealed the win when they stuffed the Northmen on fourth-and-1 in OT.

Trey Forfinski led Ludington with 181 yards and two TDs on 24 carries. Chase Hackert added 102 yards and two scores on 19 carries, plus he completed 17 of 28 passes for 213 yards with one TD and three interceptions.

REED CITY 62, ORCHARD VIEW 16: Visiting Orchard View took an early 8-0 lead on Alex Theile’s 61-yard TD run, but Reed answered with a 98-yard kickoff return that led to 54 straight points into the third quarter in this nonleague season opener.

Theile led the Cardinals with 72 yards on five carries, plus he had four tackles and an assist.

Reed City outgained Orchard View, 333-219, in total offense, including 295-203 on the ground. The Cardinals lost three fumbles.

This was Orchard View’s first varsity football game since the 2020 season, as the Cardinals opted not to field a varsity squad last fall because of low participation numbers in the junior and senior classes.

Orchard View hosts North Muskegon at 7 p.m. next Thursday in a West Michigan Conference nondivisional matchup.
