Whitehall dual-sporter Kyler Frees wins Player of Week poll for Oct. 9-14, 2023

Senior was one of the soccer squad’s leaders and he’s placekicker for the football team.

Whitehall senior Kyler Frees gets a kick out of playing two sports in the fall season.

Yes, both sports involving kicking a ball.

Now, he’s getting some recognition for his efforts on the soccer and football fields.

Frees emerged as was the winner of the latest CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll with 2,634 of 5,194 total votes. Montague football standout Adam Baird finished runner-up in the poll with 1,875 votes.

Frees, a senior midfielder, led a scoring explosion for Whitehall’s boys soccer team in a 9-0 mercy-rule victory over visiting Newaygo in a Division 3 district opener last Wednesday. He recorded a hat trick in the game’s first 25 minutes.

In Whitehall’s 3-1 district soccer semifinals loss to Manistee Wednesday, Frees gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the match.

On the football field, the Vikings placekicker made four PATs and drove some strong kickoffs in rainy conditions during Whitehall’s 56-0 homecoming win over Fremont last Friday.

It’s senior night for Whitehall’s football team as the Division 4 top-ranked Vikings (8-0) host Orchard View in the regular-season finale.
