Whitehall football’s Camden Thompson wins Player of Week poll for Oct. 2-7, 2023

Camden Thompson might be most well-known for his game and his motor on the basketball court, but you should see him play football.

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Whitehall junior is definitely a problem for Vikings opponents. He is an absolute playmaker.

Thompson showed that last week in the Whitehall football team’s 48-0 victory at Ludington. His performance was recognized by quite a few voters in the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll for Oct. 2-7, 2023.

Thompson was the clear winner of the poll, amassing 3,238 of 8,491 total votes. Fremont senior volleyball player Kendall Barnhart was second in voting with 2,528.

Six WMC fall sports athletes were recognized for their performances spanning Oct. 2-7. See complete voting totals for the six Player of the Week nominees at the bottom of this story.

Thompson made his presence felt during Whitehall’s runaway victory over host Ludington last Friday. Thompson made four receptions for 76 yards, then he capped off the game’s scoring in the fourth quarter with a 79-yard pick-6 in which he put his athleticism on display zig-zagging across the field and outrunning everybody.

Thompson has received Division I scholarship offers for basketball and football.

Whitehall’s football team, ranked No. 1 in the Michigan Associated Press’ Division 4 statewide poll, is unbeaten at 7-0 entering tonight’s homecoming game against Fremont.
