WMC boys basketball: Garrett Wever powers Oakridge, 3 other teams also notch nonleague wins

Whitehall, Montague and Ravenna picks up victories.

It was a busy Tuesday night for the West Michigan Conference boys basketball teams as several competed in nonleague competitions around the area.

All four teams from the conference earned wins in their respective games.

Here is a roundup of action from Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022:

MONTAGUE 66, ORCHARD VIEW 47: At Orchard View, the visiting Wildcats used a 21-8 second quarter to create some momentum entering the break. Montague came out strong in the third quarter and outscored the Cardinals 26-9 and coasted to a nonleague victory.

Montague leaders:

Owen Raeth 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists

Isaiah Atchison 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists

Paul Olson 8 points, 5 rebounds

Records:

Montague 9-4 overall

Orchard View 3-10 overall

OAKRIDGE 78, WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 57: At Western Michigan Christian, the visiting Eagles came out hot with a 22-12 first quarter. Oakridge broke the game open in the second quarter, where it outscored WMC 16-7. The Warriors were unable to overcome the deficit. Oakridge guard Garrett Wever scored 30 points on the evening.

Oakridge leaders:

Garrett Wever 30 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists

Ethan Jozsa 18 points, 5 blocks

Peyton Ruel 7 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists

Records:

Oakridge 8-8 overall

WMC 3-9 overall

WHITEHALL 76, MANISTEE 49: At Manistee, the visiting Vikings opened the game with a 25-5 first quarter. The Chippewas chipped away at the deficit and outscored the Vikings by four in the second quarter, but Whitehall repeated its dominance with a 24-7 third quarter and sailed to victory.

Whitehall leaders:

Camden Thompson 20 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists

Kyle Stratton 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals

Red Watson 12 points, 3 assists, 3 steals

Isaac DeHart 9 points

Records:

Whitehall 9-4 overall

Manistee 1-13 overall

RAVENNA 54, MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL 37: At Ravenna, the host Bulldogs took care of business in nonleague action, jumping out to a 25-12 lead over the Crusaders at the break. In the second half, Ravenna held off MCC to lock up its ninth overall win.

Ravenna leaders:

Grant Becklin 15 points, 7 rebounds

Travis May 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists

Kyle Beebe 13 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists

Records:

Ravenna 9-4 overall

MCC 4-8 overall
