WMC girls basketball: Kendall Osborne’s near triple-double powers Montague

North Muskegon picks up win, Mason County Central falls in nonleague action.

Nick Thaler will take a win every time, but Montague’s girls basketball coach also is looking at the big picture.

That’s why he was not overly happy with the Wildcats’ 48-38 nonleague win over host Fremont Monday night.

Kendall Osborne powered Montague (7-2 overall) with a near triple-double of 11 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Haylee Schwarz had 10 points, three rebounds and two steals, and Emma Peterson eight points, one rebound and one steal.

“Ugly play from us tonight. I was disappointed in our sense of urgency,” Thaler said. “We need to learn that we can’t skip steps.

“Every team goes through these segments of the season where things get a bit loose from time to time. Every night is an opportunity and we need to start relishing these moments.”

Fremont, which will join the West Michigan Conference next season and compete against Montague in the big-school division, slips to 1-9 on the season.

Montague will face a tougher nonconference test on Thursday at Western Michigan Christian in a game scheduled for 7 p.m. Fremont hits the road tonight for a Central State Activities Association Gold Division game at Chippewa Hills at 7 p.m.
