It’s been pretty chilly at the ballpark in the early going of Montague’s baseball season.
Maybe that’s why Wildcats coach Kevin Buchberger joined the CatchMark SportsNet Podcast studio on Monday: Warmth, especially coming from all the hot air spewed during the pod.
Buchberger was the guest during Episode 23 of the CSN Podcast, recorded March 28, 2022, in the cozy confines of the CatchMark Technologies office in Whitehall. He joined co-hosts Scott DeCamp, Brent Raeth and Zach Zweigle for approximately 75 minutes of audio and visual gold.
On the pod, Buchberger and the gang touched upon several topics, including but not limited to:
Buchberger’s background and how he became Montague “true blue”
His four sons and how baseball has been such a big part of the family
Son Jacob Buchberger’s travels and rise in college and minor-league baseball
His love of the Green Bay Packers and fandom of other state of Wisconsin teams

Montague’s baseball team is off to an 0-2 start, but the Wildcats have suffered narrow losses to a pair of Division 1 schools.
Montague is picked as a top contender to win the West Michigan Conference title. The Wildcats also are eyeing a deep run in the Division 3 state tournament.
Below are several photos from Montague’s 2-0 home-opening loss to West Ottawa on a near-freezing Tuesday afternoon. Former Montague football coach Pat Collins, who leads West Ottawa’s football program now, stopped by to take in some of the baseball action.
