All-State Accolades Roll in for 14 Local Softball Players

Holton, Ravenna, Grand Haven, and more represented on All-State teams.

This softball season brought us 14 total players who received all-state honors, including seven making the all-state first team in their respective divisions. Those seven include Lorelei Chciuk (Grand Haven), Bri Borgman (Grand Haven), Addison Gillard (Ravenna), Emma Herremans (Ravenna), Tessa Britt (Spring Lake), Abigail Isabel (Holton), and Grace Thompsen (Holton).

The second team included Gracie Willea (Oakridge), Kylee Willea (Oakridge), Khloe Siler (Spring Lake), Riley Homoly (Ravenna), Emily Postema (Ravenna), Natalie Rosel (Ravenna), and Kenzie Greene (Holton).

FIRST TEAM

Lorelei Chciuk – Grand Haven
Chciuk served as the team’s ace from the pitching circle all season. In the first round of districts, she hurled a complete-game shutout that included 14 strikeouts in the 2-0 win over Byron Center. Earlier in the season against Mona Shores, she tossed five innings, giving up zero runs and allowing just one hit.

Bri Borgman – Grand Haven
Grand Haven’s second of two first-team selections, Borgman, was a true sparkplug for the Bucs and offered lots of versatility. Borgman launched a two-run homer in the game against Byron Center, which proved to be the deciding factor in a pitchers’ duel early in the MHSAA tournament.

Addison Gillard – Ravenna
Gillard is one of many Bulldogs to receive all-state honors, and as a two-way threat, Gillard was more than deserving. She finished with a .429 BA that included 17 extra-base hits. From the circle, Gillard pitched 104 innings and recorded a 1.69 ERA while striking out 146 hitters. In the first round of districts, Gillard tossed four innings and recorded the shutout while also going deep at the plate.

Emma Herremans – Ravenna
Herremans, who just wrapped up her final season as a Ravenna Bulldog, has been a stable point in the softball program since she was a freshman. This season, she added a few more accolades to cement her as one of the best to wear Ravenna colors. Herremans recorded 60 hits this season, 25 of them for XBH. She also launched nine homers to go along with her .550 batting average.

Tessa Britt – Spring Lake
Britt sits in the heart of an above-average Spring Lake lineup, and she demolished softballs this season, posting nine home runs that would break the all-time school record. Britt finished her season hitting above .500 and drove in 56 RBIs. She broke the home run record in the second game of a doubleheader against Hart on May 23.

Abigail Isabell – Holton
Isabel made her mark last season as a freshman playing one of the hardest positions on the diamond, catcher. She joins the Division Four All-State First Team and will be a major part for the Red Devils moving forward. “Abigail brings a hard-work attitude to practice and is always wanting to be better at everything she does,” Holton manager Kirk Younts said.

Grace Thompsen – Holton
Thompsen primarily played shortstop this season for Holton and was able to provide a solid glove to go with her .329 batting average, as she was able to record 27 hits and five doubles. “Grace brings us leadership and has been able to play just about anywhere on the field. She is all about wanting everyone around her to be better,” said Younts.

SECOND TEAM

Gracie Willea (Oakridge) – “Gracie is a fierce competitor, has high expectations, and is a fearless outfielder. She covers gap to gap as well as anyone I’ve ever coached, and if she can get her glove on it, it’s usually caught,” Oakridge manager Joe Coletta said.

Kylee Willea (Oakridge) – “She’s pitched in many big games against the very best teams in the State of Michigan and gave us a chance to win every time she was in the circle,” Coletta said.

Khloe Siler (Spring Lake) – Siler led the Lakers as the team’s ace and leadoff hitter. Siler tossed a five-inning no-hitter on April 24 against Ludington.

Riley Homoly (Ravenna) – .369 BA, 11 2B, 6 HRs, 7 SB

Emily Postema (Ravenna) – .508 BA, 62 H, 13 2B, 6 3B, 9 HRs, 28 SB

Natalie Rosel (Ravenna) – .430 BA, 6 2B, 3 HRs, 31 SB / 1.10 ERA, 108 IP, 190 Ks

Kenzie Greene (Holton) – .476 BA, 50 H, 10 2B, 9 HRs / 3.95 ERA, 140 Ks
