Montague headlined the slate by continuing its red-hot run, sweeping Fremont and following it up with an impressive doubleheader sweep of Shelby to push its winning streak to 13 games. Elsewhere, Spring Lake earned a gritty road win, Shelby stayed active in a packed schedule, and North Muskegon’s Logan Slimko made history with a perfect game.
Montague Stays Red Hot Against Fremont, Rolls Past Shelby
The Montague Wildcats continued their dominant run, sweeping Fremont earlier in the week before carrying that momentum into a commanding doubleheader sweep of Shelby to extend their winning streak to 13 games.
Against Fremont, Montague picked up wins of 5-2 and 11-1, highlighted by strong pitching and timely hitting. Eli Petersen struck out 10 in the opener, while the Wildcats broke things open late. In Game 2, Montague’s offense surged behind multiple extra-base hits and home runs to secure the sweep.
Montague didn’t slow down against Shelby.
In Game 1, the Wildcats found themselves trailing early, down 1-0 after the first and still behind 3-0 heading into the fourth inning. That’s when the momentum completely shifted.
Cole Moss sparked the rally, racing home to get Montague on the board before the bats fully came alive. The Wildcats exploded for a huge inning, turning a 3-1 deficit into an 8-3 lead in the fourth. From there, Montague controlled the game and closed out an 8-4 victory, with Karter Johnson earning the win on the mound.
Game 2 was all Montague from the start.
After a scoreless first couple innings, the Wildcats broke through in the third, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. They continued to pile on, stretching the lead to 7-0 in the fourth and 10-1 by the fifth. Montague showcased its depth on both sides of the ball, cruising to an 11-1 mercy-rule win to complete the sweep and cap a 13-game winning streak.
With the pair of wins, Montague continues to establish itself as one of the hottest teams in the area.
