Wildcats Unleash 34-Run Outburst in Sweep of Manistee as Area Softball Heats Up

It was a high-energy week across West Michigan softball, filled with dominant sweeps, statement wins, and tightly contested battles. While powerhouse programs like Ravenna continued their unbeaten run and Grand Haven proved its grit against top-ranked competition, it was Montague that stole the spotlight, exploding offensively in a doubleheader sweep over Manistee to headline an action-packed slate of games.

Montague’s Bats Erupt in Sweep of Manistee

Montague delivered its most impressive performance of the season Tuesday, overwhelming Manistee with a pair of high-scoring victories, 13-4 and 21-11, in West Michigan Conference Lakes play.

The Wildcats’ offense was relentless from the first pitch to the final out and it was fueled by a standout group of young players.

In the opener, Montague showcased its depth in a big way, with all nine players in the lineup recording at least one hit. Freshman Kaelyn Lohman provided a milestone moment, blasting her first career out-of-the-park home run to ignite the Wildcats’ offense.

Fellow freshman Olivia McKeown was equally impressive in the circle, pitching six strong innings while striking out eight and walking just two to earn the win in the 13-4 victory.

Montague didn’t slow down in Game 2, it doubled down. The Wildcats erupted for 21 runs on 15 hits in just five innings, continuing to apply pressure with timely hitting and aggressive base running. McKeown again led the way, earning her second win of the day while striking out six. She also helped herself at the plate with her first inside-the-park home run.

Emma Trevino delivered one of the biggest swings of the day, ripping a bases-loaded triple to drive in three runs. Brynlee Kessler added extra-base power as well, doubling and driving in a run during the offensive outburst.

Despite Manistee putting runs on the board, Montague consistently answered with bigger innings, maintaining control throughout the nightcap.

The offensive explosion, 34 total runs across two games, signals a potential turning point for the Wildcats as they build momentum heading deeper into the season, with a young core already making a major impact.
