Welcome to the CatchMark SportsNet: Player of the Week, where we celebrate the unsung heroes and rising stars who light up the local sports scene! Each week, we put the spotlight on three extraordinary athletes who not only rack up impressive stats but also inspire their teammates and elevate their game.

At the end of this article, you’ll find a poll where you can cast your vote for the athlete you believe deserves the title of Player of the Week. The poll will be open for one week, starting today and ending on the following Friday (March 14th, 2025). Liam Copenhaver, Junior, Reeths-Puffer Bowling

Copenhaver, a junior bowler for Reeths-Puffer High School, has established himself as a standout competitor in recent tournaments. He earned a spot in the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals, finishing 25th with a six-game total of 1,146 pins. Following an impressive regional performance, where he placed fifth with a 1,210-pin series, including a personal-best 259 game. Copenhaver also helped lead Reeths-Puffer to victory in the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association Tournament, finishing fifth individually with a 402-pin two-game series.

Gavin Payne, Senior, Fremont Bowling

​Payne, a senior bowler for Fremont High School, has demonstrated exceptional skill in recent competitions. He secured second place at the MHSAA Division 3 Regional Tournament with a six-game total of 1,263 pins, including a high game of 244, earning him a spot in the state finals. Payne’s consistent high-level performances have solidified his reputation as a leading bowler in the region.

Mallory Woiteshek, Sophomore, Grand Haven Girls Basketball

​Mallory Woiteshek is a 6’3″ sophomore center for Grand Haven High School’s girls’ basketball team. She has been instrumental in the team’s recent successes, including a 55-36 victory over Grandville in January 2025, where she recorded 20 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. In February 2025, Woiteshek and teammate Gillian Sorrelle each contributed 15 points in a 44-25 win against Mona Shores. Her consistent performance has helped Grand Haven achieve an 18-3 record, earning them the third spot in the Division 1 rankings as of March 5, 2025. Woiteshek’s contributions were pivotal in Grand Haven’s 48-24 victory over Zeeland West in the district finals on March 7, 2025.

Myles Welch joined CatchMark in February 2024 as a CatchMark SportsNet Intern. He would like to become a sports broadcaster or analyst. He currently attends Whitehall High School and will graduate in 2025.
