MONTAGUE – The Packers looked composed, aggressive, and playoff-ready in Wednesday night’s 3-1 win over Montague in West Michigan Conference action.
Senior forward Riley Chase led the way for the Packers, scoring two goals—including a second-half dagger that sealed the deal. Fremont improves to 14-3-1 overall and 6-3 in league play with just one regular-season match remaining.
The game’s pace was fast early. Fremont jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, with Chase and Mia Clemence each finding the back of the net during a five-minute scoring flurry. Montague quickly responded with a goal of its own, as Adilynn Peterson knocked in a loose ball to keep things tight heading into the break.
But from there, it was all Fremont. The Packers controlled possession and peppered the net with chances, outshooting the Wildcats 13-6. Clemence tallied an assist to go with her first-half goal, and Esther Vissia added an assist as well.
In the second half, Chase struck again—this time beating keeper Addison Pranger in a one-on-one to stretch the lead to 3-1 and put the game out of reach.
Defensively, Fremont stood tall. Hallie Snyder recorded five saves in net, keeping Montague’s offense in check down the stretch. On the other end, Addison Pranger made 10 stops for the Wildcats.
Fremont holds onto third place in the WMC standings heading into Monday’s regular-season finale at home against Whitehall.
Montague, now 10-8 overall and 6-3 in conference play, drops to fifth and will look to bounce back when it wraps up the regular season at Shelby.
