Alex Hicks has a tough act to follow when it comes to measuring up to older sister Abby and her athletic achievements at Hart High School.
However, he’s holding his own and then some.
Alex Hicks reached a big milestone last Saturday on the wrestling mat. This week, the Pirates junior finished atop the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll.
Hicks racked up 1,491 of 3,336 total votes in the poll, which recognized six winter sports athletes for their performances Jan. 22-27, 2024. Whitehall freshman basketball player Clare Westerlund was runner-up in the poll with 631 votes.
In last week’s highly competitive Player of the Week fan poll for Jan. 15-20 performances, Abby Hicks piled up 2,568 votes but finished third.
See complete voting totals at the bottom of this story for this week’s Player of the Week poll, which is title-sponsored by Complete Restoration & Cleaning Services, Inc.
Alex Hicks reached the 100-win milestone of his wrestling career last Saturday at the Shelby Super Duals, where he went 5-0 on the day. Hart finished runner-up to Cedar Springs as a team at Shelby.
Hicks has amassed a 35-3 record this season competing in the 165- to 190-pound weight classes. He’s currently ranked No. 7 at 165 pounds for Division 3. As a team, Hart also is ranked No. 7 in Division 3.
The Pirates, who finished first in the regular-season portion of WMC Rivers Division competition, will take the mats again today in the conference meet hosted by Whitehall at the Viking Athletic Center. Wrestling begins at 3 p.m.

Hesperia’s Heavy weight Noah Walker did an awesome job on Friday evening in Whitehall defeating Whitehalls Heavyweight and capturing the 1st place title for the West Michigan Conference Championship. It was a very exciting match and the crowd was cheering Noah on for the win. I would like if he could be added to the player of the week list for the week of 1-29-24 thru 2-3-25
Thank You
