Hart wrestling’s Ivan Lara wins CatchMark SportsNet Player of Week for Jan. 2-6, 2024

Ivan Lara was a key player for Hart’s historic football team in the fall.

He’s carried momentum from the football field to the wrestling mat, it appears.

Lara has been atop the medal stand, just like he’s on top of the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll this week.

The Pirates senior has been racking up big wrestling wins just like he piled up votes this week. He finished with 3,040 of 9,203 total votes in the poll, which recognized six winter sports athletes for their performances Jan. 2-6, 2024.

Montague senior wrestler Abby Thommen was runner-up with 2,801 votes. See complete voting totals at the bottom of this story.

Lara was a beast on the mats last week. He went 5-0, including winning his weight class in the challenging Falcon Invite last Saturday in Allendale. He defeated the Division 2 seventh-ranked wrestler in the finals. That improved Lara’s season record to 18-2.
