Introducing Our Coverage Area’s All-State Baseball Honorees

Nine players from across the lakeshore earn all-state honors.

Nine players from our coverage area have been selected as All-State players for the 2025 season. Four of them, Ryan Bosch (Fruitport), Trevor Rusnak (Fruitport), Oliver Smies (Spring Lake), and Caleb McKay (West Michigan Christian), received All-State First Team honors.

Michael Wambaugh (Oakridge), Maddux Kipling (Spring Lake), Hudson Hazekamp (Fruitport), Logan Slimko (North Muskegon), and Bryton Belinger (Montague) each earned Second Team nods for their production this season.

Ryan Bosch – Fruitport – First Team

Bosch, Wake Forest commit and four-year starter for Fruitport, was selected to the Division Two First Team as a pitcher due to his lights-out pitching from the left side. Bosch pitched 62 innings this season and allowed just 17 hits and boasted a 0.677 ERA, as well as striking out 134 hitters. “Ryan Bosch is probably the best player to come through Fruitport. I can say so much about him. But his biggest trait was being willing to do anything for the team to win,” Fruitport manager Nick Reed said. Although Bosch was dominant on the mound throughout his career, he may have been the most complete player this area has ever seen. He finished his career at Fruitport with over 100 RBIs and more than 150 hits.

“His legacy goes far beyond the field. He’s a great human and always takes time to talk to anyone who asks. He is always helping the youth and trying to mold them. The hole he leaves as a player is minor compared to the one he’s leaving as a person,” Reed stated.

Trevor Rusnak – Fruitport – First Team

Rusnak, who is only a junior at Fruitport, is already setting school records as he becomes the single-season RBI leader with 41 this past season. Rusnak finished the year hitting .372 with seven doubles and six home runs. Not to mention, Rusnak also won six games on the mound this season, including the district final against Whitehall. “One of the top power hitters in Fruitport history,” said Reed.

Rusnak was mainly a first baseman but served as the Trojans’ number two pitcher behind Bosch. “Trevor will slide into the number one role if he continues to progress like we think he will,” Reed said.

Oliver Smies – Spring Lake – First Team

As a manager, Bill Core likes to label him a “professional hitter.” Smies killed the ball for Spring Lake this past season after being named an All-State Honorable Mention last season. Smies raked a .442 average this season that included 38 hits, seven doubles, four triples, and one homer. On top of that, Smies struck out only six times in 86 at-bats, a 6% clip. “All he wants to do is HIT! He has a great swing and hitting mechanics, plus he is comfortable in the box with any count,” Core said.

Caleb McKay – West Michigan Christian – First Team

McKay, for his whole high school career, has been a 5-tool player displaying raw power and a true bag-stealer. In his senior season, McKay hit .388 with 10 doubles, three triples, and two homers to go along with 21 stolen bases. The senior was the king of the outfield this season for a district-winning West Michigan Christian squad. McKay recorded 63 putouts as well as three outfield assists.

Michael Wambaugh – Oakridge – Second Team

Wambaugh, a Spring Arbor signee, tossed 62 innings this season for the Eagles. Recording 108 strikeouts as well as posting a 0.78 ERA, Wambaugh served as the team’s ace for the last few seasons. Reaching the upper 80s on his fastball, the senior has one of the highest ceilings among all seniors around the area moving forward.

Maddux Kipling – Spring Lake – Second Team

After the departure of Zane Stahl to P27 Academy following the 2024 season, Kipling was presumably the Lakers’ new ace for the upcoming campaign. Earning All-State honors this season as a junior proves he was not only ready for the role, but he also embraced it. Kipling finished with a 9-2 record over 67 innings pitched and gave up just four runs while striking out 90 hitters. That earned run ratio equates to a remarkable 0.41 ERA. “He worked so hard on his strength, speed, and agility, and takes care of his body, and it showed this year. Of course, he works a lot on his pitches and pitching mechanics, but I believe the way he worked on his body made a huge difference for him this season,” Core stated.

Logan Slimko – North Muskegon – Second Team

The hard-throwing Dartmouth commit logged nearly 50 innings this season and accumulated a win-loss record of 8-1. Slimko struck out 103 batters and posted a 0.98 ERA. Offensively, Slimko hit .329 and tallied nine doubles on the season. Serving as the ace of North Muskegon’s pitching staff, manager Garret Moyer and the rest of the team were assured a win behind his dominance on the mound. “He’s been an animal since his freshman year in the offseason. He enjoys the process of getting better, which, in my opinion, separates the good from the great,” Moyer said.

Bryton Belinger – Montague – Second Team

Belinger was a dominant two-way threat for the Wildcats in 2025 with a sub-two ERA and a batting average north of .400, striking out 80 hitters through 49 1/3 innings. Belinger knocked in 20 runs with the bat while posting 12 doubles. Making the All-State Second Team as an infielder, though putting up strong numbers from the rubber, showed how much Montague valued him on its way to a WMC-Lakes Conference title in 2025.

Hudson Hazekamp – Fruitport – Second Team

Hazekamp excelled mightily in his sophomore season and left behind any sophomore slump imaginable. In 90 at-bats, Hazekamp hit .489 with 44 hits, 10 doubles, and 31 RBIs. “He was also our Swiss Army knife, as he played third, first, and second base at some point in the year and was very effective. He allowed us to make many moves in the game because of his ability to play multiple positions,” said Reed. Hazekamp also served as the team’s number three pitcher in the rotation. Tossing 31 innings of work, he struck out 38 hitters and boasted a 3.35 ERA.
