The 2026 GMAA baseball tournament at Marsh Field delivered everything fans could ask for, lights-out pitching, clutch late-game moments, and multiple one-run battles. From walk-off heroics to extra-inning heartbreak, the weekend showcased the depth of talent across Muskegon County, ultimately ending with Mona Shores capturing the title in a tightly contested championship game.
Fruitport Falls in Extra-Inning Classic
The defining moment of the tournament came in the championship, where Fruitport and Mona Shores battled through a tense pitcher’s duel that wasn’t decided until the ninth inning.
Fruitport appeared poised to repeat as champions, holding a 1-0 lead into the seventh behind a gritty, standout performance from Hudson Hazekamp. The junior was exceptional, going eight innings while allowing just a pair of runs and keeping Mona Shores’ offense in check most of the game.
But the Sailors responded when it mattered most. A game-tying home run in the seventh shifted momentum, and in the ninth, Mona Shores capitalized with two clutch runs to secure a 3-1 victory and the GMAA crown.
It was a tough finish for Fruitport, but one that highlighted just how strong—and dangerous—the Trojans are when playing their best baseball.
