Mason County Central standout wins CatchMark Performance of Week poll (May 9-14)

Will Chye has enjoyed some big moments this season for Mason County Central’s baseball team.

He can add another memory now: The Spartans junior has been voted the CatchMark Performance of the Week poll winner for contests played May 9-14, 2022.

Chye had a big day in Mason County Central’s sweep of Hart last week. In the first game, he fired a five-inning perfect game as his team picked up a 12-0 victory. Chye helped his own cause with a home run. In the nightcap, he hit a grand slam as Mason County Central went on to a 12-6 win.

On the season, Chye is batting .585 with a .670 on-base percentage. The leadoff man has three home runs, six triples, 18 RBIs, 43 runs scored and 50 stolen bases. Defensively, the shortstop has a .957 fielding percentage.

On the mound, the right-hander sports an 8-3 record and a 1.90 ERA, having pitched a perfect game and a no-hitter. He’s got 56 strikeouts against only eight walks in 12 outings.

Mason County Central is 19-9 overall and finished 6-8 in the West Michigan Conference.
