Mason County Central wrestler wins CatchMark SportsNet Player of Week (Feb. 5-10, 2024)

Zane McCabe earned his 150th career victory last weekend and will compete in individual regional this Saturday.

You don’t get to 150 career wrestling wins without staging a comeback or two.

Zane McCabe knows comebacks well.

Off the mat, the Mason County Central senior staged a big comeback in the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll. He charged from a substantial deficit and took a commanding lead late en route to winning the fan poll this week.

McCabe finished with 5,970 of 11,205 total votes in the poll, which recognized six winter sports athletes for their performances Feb. 5-10, 2024. Montague basketball player Addison Pranger was runner-up in the poll with a strong 4,758 votes after holding the lead for a large share of the week.

McCabe placed third in the 132-pound weight class of last Saturday’s Division 3 individual wrestling district at Hart, qualifying him for this week’s individual regional. Notably, his 8-1 victory over Beaverton’s Landon Terrell which punched his ticket to the regional was the 150th of McCabe’s career. He is 38-9 on the season entering this weekend’s individual regional action.
