Norse Strike Early, Area Teams Stack Wins in Busy Week

There are games where everything builds slowly—and then there are games like Friday night at Muskegon Community College, where the tone is set before fans have even settled into their seats.

North Muskegon wasted no time making a statement.

The Norsemen exploded for seven runs in the opening inning against Oakridge, turning early energy into a commanding 10-3 victory in a West Michigan Conference showdown. The dugout was loud, the basepaths were busy, and the Eagles were suddenly playing uphill from the very first frame.

Hunter Darga delivered a key two-run double in that opening surge, while Tommy Dahlquist and Owen Silvis added RBI hits as North Muskegon capitalized on both timely hitting and an Oakridge miscue. By the end of the inning, the Norsemen had seized complete control.

On the mound, Cameron Hurst backed the offensive outburst with a steady performance, going six innings while allowing four hits and two runs (one earned), striking out eight. He worked efficiently through traffic, keeping Oakridge from ever mounting a serious comeback.

North Muskegon’s offense stayed active throughout. Darga, Dahlquist, and Logan Slimko each collected two hits, while Darga finished with three RBIs. The Norsemen also showed patience and aggressiveness, drawing eight walks and swiping multiple bases, totaling seven steals on the night.

Oakridge found some rhythm late, with Chase Dutton and Jacob Randall each recording two hits, and Randall, Beckett Jonas, and Max Johnson driving in runs. But the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

The win highlighted North Muskegon’s ability to pair explosive offense with controlled pitching—a combination that can quickly shift momentum in conference play.
