North Muskegon’s Logan Slimko Takes Talents to Dartmouth

One of North Muskegon’s best student-athletes commits to an Ivy League baseball program.

North Muskegon – Norseman ace, Logan Slimko, recently announced his commitment to Dartmouth College.

After gaining lots of interest from Division One programs, Slimko decided on an Ivy League school in New Hampshire. “My goal has always been to play high-level baseball at a great school, and Dartmouth is the best of both worlds. You get one of the best institutions in the country on the education side, paired with amazing facilities and high-level baseball,” said Slimko.

Slimko and North Muskegon are currently enjoying an 11-2 start to the season and are at the top of the WMC-Rivers division. The flamethrower is boasting a 1.16 ERA through 18 innings of work with 35 strikeouts.

“Coach Moyer (North Muskegon manager Garret Moyer) has taught me so much about baseball. He opened my eyes to so many things and has mainly helped me become mentally strong and develop my mindset on baseball and life,” Slimko stated.

Moyer has been a vital piece to North Muskegon’s baseball success over the past four seasons.

“Logan’s more of a silent leader on the field. He doesn’t show a whole lot of emotion, but he does a great job picking up his teammates with positive feedback,” Moyer said. “He’s been an animal since his freshman year in the off seasons. He enjoys the process of getting better, which in my opinion separates the good from the great.”

In the classroom, Slimko is a top-tier student with a 3.98 unweighted GPA and is a member of many clubs, including the Spanish Club, Environmental Club, and is a part of the National Honor Society. With just a 6% acceptance rate at Dartmouth, it shows how much Slimko values his education along with his athletic ability.

“It shows that he’s a rare breed, in my opinion, by being able to handle a giant workload and manage his 24 hours better than most. It takes a lot of time and commitment to be in the position he’s in, to have the opportunity to play ball at the D1 level while trying to achieve high academic success,” Moyer stated.

A year ago, North Muskegon finished the regular season with a 32-7 record and was ranked as one of the best teams in all of Division Three. An unfortunate loss in the district final to Montague only fueled the returning Norse for a deeper run in the state tournament.

“It’s always been the same vision for us as a whole: East Lansing (the state finals host). Every practice and game, we try and get better, no matter how good or bad our opponent may be,” Slimko said.

When Slimko isn’t dicing through opponents’ lineups, he plays as an elite outfielder and rakes at the dish. Last season, he scorched eight doubles, three triples, and drove in 28 RBIs. This season, he’s hitting .371 and has already parked one home run so far.
