Oakridge softball’s Andrea Romero-Serrano heats up at plate, wins Player of Week fan poll

Senior standout catcher and her Eagles are on an offensive tear.

As the lone senior, Andrea Romero-Serrano is an inspirational leader for Oakridge’s softball team.

Long known as a reliable catcher, she’s been heating up at the plate.

Things keep falling into place for Romero-Serrano, who won the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll after a red-hot week with the bat.

Romero-Serrano totaled 722 votes to win going away in the poll, which recognized six WMC spring sports student-athletes for their performances spanning May 22-27, 2023. Chase Gowell of Montague’s baseball team finished second in the poll with 223 votes.

Romero-Serrano has hit well throughout the season, but she’s been on a tear of late. In four blowout victories last week, she was a combined 10-for-14 with a grand slam, three-run home run and three doubles to go with 16 RBIs and seven runs scored.

Oakridge (27-9) rolled to a seventh-straight WMC crown, locking it up last week in a sweep at Montague. During the Eagles’ conference rein, they’re 101-1 against league opponents.

Oakridge, which has broken a school record for team home runs in a season with 50, takes on Grant in a Division 2 district semifinal at noon Saturday in Fremont. The Oakridge-Grant winner will face the Whitehall-Howard City Tri County victor in the district finals at 2 p.m.
