Ravenna girls basketball relies on defense, speed to power success in 2021-22 season

Bulldogs return three starters, look to climb conference standings.

Ravenna’s 2021-22 girls basketball team attended the VanDyk Mortgage West Michigan Conference media day last Wednesday at the Viking Athletic Center (VAC) in Whitehall.

COACH: Jeff Sterken (5th season).

LAST YEAR’S RECORDS: 6-12 overall (3-11 West Michigan Conference, tied for 7th place).

RETURNING STARTERS: Madeline Kilbourne (Senior, Guard); Emma Gillard (Junior, Guard/Forward); Olivia Porter (Junior, Forward).

NEW PROSPECTS: Hope Hulka (Junior, Guard); Kara Postema (Junior, Guard/Forward); Kendra Postema (Junior, Guard/Forward); Antonia Ludosan (Senior, Forward); Claira Schullo (Senior, Guard); Logan Kantola (Senior, Forward); Allison VanWesep (Junior, Guard); Lexis McMahon (Junior, Forward).

STRENGTHS: The Bulldogs will rely on their defensive ability and speed to compete in the conference this season. In addition to these traits, the ‘Dogs return three experienced starters.

WEAKNESSES: Several new additions to the team leave Ravenna’s journey this season unpredictable.

SEASON OUTLOOK: Ravenna will strive to increase their overall placement in the West Michigan Conference. After winning only three conference games last season, the ‘Dogs will look to clean up their play in close games and fight for a split record this season.
