RAVENNA — Ravenna’s baseball team got off to a strong start in West Michigan Conference Rivers Division play thanks to solid pitching and timely hitting in a sweep of visiting Holton Wednesday.

The Bulldogs defeated the Red Devils, 10-0 in Game 1 and 12-0 in Game 2.

Here are more details and notables:

  • Ravenna’s Collin Poley earned the win in Game 1. The right-hander allowed one hit and striking out nine in five innings.
  • Ravenna’s Hunter Hogan led the offense in the first game with three hits and four runs. Blake Homoly and Dylan May added two hits apiece. Tyler Bradtmueller, Drew Mabrito, Wyatt Young and Chase Thomas also had hits.
  • In Game 2, freshman Dylan May notched the win for Ravenna. The right-hander allowed one hit with six strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work.
  • Hogan and Thomas both had three hits — one double for Hogan and two doubles for Thomas — in the nightcap. Mabrito, Homoly, Zeke Erler and Keigen Swan also had hits for the Bulldogs.
  • In the second game, Hogan made a pair of spectacular diving catches from his center-field position, taking away hits from Red Devils batters.
  • Andrew May is in his first season as Ravenna’s head baseball coach. He takes over for longtime head coach Paul Herremans, a Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Famer who retired from the position after holding it since 1991. Herremans amassed more than 500 wins in his coaching career.
  • Ravenna improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the WMC Rivers Division. Holton’s record was not submitted.
