The high school sports seasons have changed, as we’ve transitioned from fall to winter.

Five winter sports athletes and one fall athlete from the conference who stood out in competitions Dec.. 4-9, 2023, have been nominated by CatchMark SportsNet.
Time for you to vote, over and over. The poll can be found at the bottom of this story after brief capsules on the nominees. The poll closes at noon Friday, Dec. 15.

TRISHA BECKMAN, Montague wrestling
In the first tournament of her first season wrestling, the senior earned a championship in the 235-pound division of the East Jackson Girls Wrestling Tournament on Friday. Beckman helped Montague finished runner-up in the tourney, just behind Hastings.
GAVIN CRANER, Whitehall wrestling
In his first match as a Viking last Wednesday, the junior recorded his 100th career victory with a pinfall in 42 seconds against his Benzie Central opponent in the “Assembly Dual.” Craner helped his team claim a 42-19 victory. On Saturday in the Grandville Challenge, he was announced the tournament’s outstanding wrestler.
JESSICA JAZWINSKI, Hart cross country
The Pirates phenom capped her junior cross country season in impressive fashion on the national stage Saturday in San Diego. Jazwinski placed ninth at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships with a time of 17:45.9. Last year, she finished 11th at nationals, making her a two-time All-American. Jazwinski is a back-to-back MHSAA Division 3 state champion, who owns the D-3 state meet record.
EVAN JOZSA, Oakridge basketball
The 6-foot-7 junior is one of the reasons Oakridge got off to a 5-0 start to the season. In Friday’s 53-36 win over Manistee, Jozsa finished with 25 points and five rebounds. He had six rebounds in a 62-56 win over Montague and six boars in a 76-34 v
MALLORY MILLER, Mason County Central basketball
The junior put together a pair of strong games as the Spartans won their first two contests of the 2023-24 season. In a 54-32 victory over Holton on Tuesday, Miller paced her team with 18 points. In a 62-54 victory over Manistee Thursday, she had 17 points and nine rebounds.
DAVID SHILLINGER, Ludington basketball
The senior moved up to No. 2 on the list for Ludington’s all-time leading boys scorers with two more strong games last week. Shillinger scored 19 in a 60-49 nonleague win over Traverse City St. Francis on Tuesday, then he came back on Friday with a 33-point showing in a 67-57 win over Fremont in WMC Lakes Division. Shillinger entered this week with 2,033 career points. Mike Larsen is the No. 1 all-time scorer with 1,336 career points.
