Welcome to Week 3 of the CatchMark SportsNet Player of the Week series highlighting fall sports athletes in the West Michigan Conference.

The response has been good from our readers and we’d like to keep that going.

It’s time to recognize the next batch of nominees, based upon athletic events spanning Sept. 6-10, 2022.

The poll can be found at the bottom of this story after brief capsules on the six nominees. Voting is open and will continue until noon on Friday, Sept. 16. You may vote once per hour.

Athletes are listed alphabetically:

HUNTER HOGAN, Ravenna football

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound senior did it all in the Bulldogs’ 61-8 victory over host Holton in a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division opener on Friday (Sept. 9). Hogan scored touchdowns on a 40-yard punt return and 85-yard kickoff return, plus two more scores on runs covering 11 and 9 yards. He also led Ravenna defensively with five tackles and went 8-for-8 on PATs. Hogan does it all for the Bulldogs, playing quarterback, free safety, returning kickoffs and punts and handling placekicking and punting duties. The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 overall on the young season.

JESSICA JAZWINSKI, Hart cross country

The sophomore placed fifth with a time of 18:30.7 in the highly competitive 40th West Ottawa Bredeweg Invite on Saturday (Sept. 10) at West Ottawa’s Macatawa Middle School. The only girls who finished ahead of her were from larger schools. Jazwinski was her team’s top finisher in the event. Her season record is 17:44.9, posted in the Pete Moss Benzie Central Invite as she won that event on Aug. 27. Jazwinski’s personal record was established last fall as a freshman when she ran 17:43.2 in a Division 3 regional at Benzie Central.

TREVER JONES, Oakridge football

The junior running back and linebacker continues to play at a high level for the Eagles, who improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division with a 46-19 victory at Manistee Friday (Sept. 9). Jones led all rushers with 140 yards on 12 carries, as he scored touchdowns on runs of 1, 26 and 65 yards. He also scored on a 52-yard pass from Matt Danicek. Defensively, Jones notched four tackles, including one for lost yardage. In a 20-14 win at Muskegon Catholic Central in Week 2, Jones rushed for 105 yards and a TD, plus he recorded seven tackles.

NATALIE PANNUCCI, North Muskegon volleyball

Pannucci was productive during a busy week for the Norse. In six total matches, the 5-foot-11 senior outside hitter amassed 58 kills, 54 digs, eight blocks and four aces. North Muskegon defeated Hesperia (25-9, 25-22, 22-25) in West Michigan Conference Rivers Division action Tuesday (Sept. 6) and beat Saugatuck, (25-23, 25-12, 25-16) in a nonleague matchup Thursday (Sept. 8). In the Fruitport Trojan Invite on Saturday (Sept. 10), North Muskegon beat Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian (25-16, 27-25) and lost to Fruitport (25-16, 27-25), Traverse City West (25-16, 17-25, 15-12) and Grand Haven (25-21, 25-20). North Muskegon carried a 4-6-3 overall record into this week.

PEYTON RUEL, Oakridge cross country

The sophomore ran strong in a couple of events last week for the Eagles. Ruel took first place in the Bulldog Invite at Ravenna on Thursday (Sept. 8) with a time of 18:06.8. Two days later, he finished sixth overall in the Ferris State Ray Helsing Bulldog Invite at Katke Golf Course with a time of 18:03.76. Ruel’s best time of the season came in the first event, as he posted a 17:34.2 on Aug. 20 at the Muskegon Catholic Central Invite. His personal record is 17:17.8, recorded last October as a freshman at the MCC Mini Invitational.

JAELYN SUNDBERG, Montague volleyball

The sophomore setter amassed 162 assists and 36 digs in seven total matches for the Wildcats last week. On Tuesday (Sept. 6), Montague beat Fremont (25-18, 25-22, 25-17) in a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division match. On Thursday, the Wildcats defeated Newaygo (25-7, 25-10) and Shelby (25-19, 18-25, 15-7). At the Fruitport Trojan Invite Saturday, Montague beat Whitehall (25-22, 25-20) and Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian (29-27, 18-25, 19-17) and lost to Grand Haven (25-10, 25-8) and Mona Shores (25-20, 26-24). Montague takes a 7-11 overall record into this week.
