Athletic talent in the West Michigan Conference is peaking just in time for post season play. In attempt to highlight some impressive performances, VanDyk Mortgage brings you the CatchMark Player of the Week.
Last week’s Player of the Week was awarded to Hart’s Trayce Tate. The standout junior collected his first accolade of the season as an essential part of the Pirate’s wrestling squad.
After reviewing some of last week’s outstanding performances, the CatchMark SportsNet team was able to narrow it down to three deserving candidates.
Nominations and voting will be released each Wednesday at 8 a.m. and voting will close Friday at noon. Shortly after, the winner of the CatchMark Player of the Week will be announced.
Without further ado, here are the nominees for the CatchMark Player of the Week series brought to you by VanDyk Mortgage. Read the description of each player’s performance and cast your vote at the bottom of the story.
KENDALL ZOULEK, SHELBY GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Tigers senior made history this past week when she joined her mother and coach, Sarah Zoulek in the 1000-point club. During a rescheduled game on Shelby’s home court, the 5-foot-9 guard/forward reached the milestone and rounded out the competition with a team-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds, two assists and one block. The Tigers ended their season this week with a first-round playoff loss to North Muskegon.
TATE STINE, MONTAGUE BOYS BASKETBALL
As a senior for the Wildcats, Stine has been one of the leading players in the West Michigan Conference throughout the entire season. The crafty point guard is known for his poise, explosiveness, and offensive control. Last week, Stine notched a combined 27 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals on the Wildcats’ home court against Manistee and Hart. The reliable guard will lead his team into the Division 2 district playoffs next week in Spring Lake.
DYLAN GORDON, RAVENNA BOYS BOWLING
The junior Bulldog took his game to the next level last weekend as he competed in the Division 4 regional bowling tournament at Park Center Lanes in Wyoming. The skilled bowler racked up a total pinfall of 1188 to win the boys individual regional competition. Gordon rolled a 233 in game 3, and a 226 in game 6 to highlight his performance. He will advance to the Division 4 state bowling competition at M-66 Bowl in Battle Creek.
