Led by senior Andre Richmond’s school-record time, Whitehall’s boys cross country team defended its title in the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association race Saturday at University Park Golf Course in Muskegon.
The Vikings finished with 63 points to edge Mona Shores, which totaled 69 points. Fruitport was third (70), followed by Reeths-Puffer fourth (82), Western Michigan Christian fifth (127), North Muskegon sixth (136), Montague seventh (197), Muskegon Catholic Central eighth (201), Ravenna ninth (203) and Muskegon 10th (303).
Richmond finished in a time of 15:48.20 to place second individually. Mona Shores senior Caleb Branch took top honors in 15:42.70. Reeths-Puffer junior Jaxon Allen was third (15:59.70), followed by Whitehall senior Carter McIlroy fourth (16:23.40) and Oakridge sophomore Peyton Ruel fifth (16:45.90).
On the girls side, Mona Shores ran away with the team title. The Sailors scored 32 points, followed by runner-up Whitehall (68), third-place Western Michigan Christian (73), fourth-place Fruitport (93), Reeths-Puffer fifth (127), Montague sixth (170), Oakridge seventh (177) and Ravenna eighth (214).
Western Michigan Christian sophomore Grace Vander Kooi was the individual girls winner with a time of 18:40.03. Mona Shores freshman Ellery Horness was second (19:08.64), Whitehall senior Ariana Treat third (19:32.22), and Mona Shores seniors Robyn Hunt and Cecilia Conrad fourth (19:43.12) and fifth (19:48.34), respectively.
