After a dynamite freshman year, Camden Thompson has continued to put up big numbers for Whitehall’s boys basketball team.
The 6-foot-5 sophomore is averaging 22 points, 13.3 rebounds, 2.6 steals, 2.4 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.
The stat sheet is not the only place Thompson is racking up numbers. He also did so this week in the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll. This week’s fan poll recognized six athletes from the conference for their performances spanning Jan. 23-28, 2023.
Thompson won the poll with 2,805 votes. He beat out Manistee girls basketball player Jayna Edmondson, who finished runner-up with 1,799 votes, as well as the four other nominees for the week. See complete voting results at the bottom of this story.
Thompson had a couple of big games last week in helping the Vikings extend their winning streak to six games. In last Tuesday’s 76-30 home win over Western Michigan Christian, Thompson had 23 points and 11 rebounds. In last Thursday’s 92-61 home victory over Shelby, he packed the stat sheet with 28 points, including a couple of dunks, plus 12 rebounds, five steals, four assists and one block.
Thompson, who was the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Year last season, continued his dominant play this Tuesday with a 31-point, 15-rebound, three-steal, three-block, two-assist effort in an 82-69 home win over Mona Shores.
Whitehall (11-4) will seek its eighth-straight victory tonight in a nonleague test against a traditionally strong Grand Rapids Covenant Christian squad.
Next Thursday, Whitehall heads across the bridge to take on arch-rival Montague in the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Game of the Week. CatchMark will be producing a free livestream of that game.
