Whitehall’s Camden Thompson wins CatchMark Player of the Week (Jan. 3-8)

More than half of total vote lands Vikings freshman hooper as Player of the Week.

Voters have determined that Whitehall freshman basketball player Camden Thompson is the CatchMark Player of the Week for Jan. 3-8.

This was Camden’s first nomination, but it’s not the first nomination for the Thompson family. His sister, Whitehall senior Rayne Thompson, was nominated twice throughout the fall season as a standout volleyball player for the Vikings.

Camden Thompson made his awaited return to the court last week. He missed the first five games of the season because of an ankle injury. He jumped right in and wasted no time contributing to the Vikings’ offense in both games last week.

Against rival Montague, Thompson put up nine points and added several big rebounds. He acted as a fresh spark for the Vikings, who saw an unprecedented contribution from sophomore Kyle Stratton as well in that game.

Thompson continued to heat up as the week went on and scored a co-game-high 27 points in a victory against Hart.

For his first week as a varsity basketball player, Thompson’s performance enters him as one of the West Michigan Conference’s elite ballers.

Thompon’s weekly performance received 54.11 percent of the total vote, landing him in the No. 1 spot. Montague wrestler Cale Coppess followed with a runner-up finish and 31,39 percent of the total vote.
