It’s Week 6 of the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll for 2023 spring sports.
Six spring sports athletes from the conference who stood out in competitions May 8-13 have been nominated.

MALCOLM EARVIN, Whitehall track and field
The Vikings junior was an individual champion in both sprints and ran legs on two first-place relays as his team cruised to first place in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division championships Friday at Whitehall. Earvin won the 100-meter dash (11.16 seconds) and 200 dash (22.68), plus he ran legs on the Vikings’ first-place 4×100 relay (43.92) and 4×200 relay (1:29.82) teams. For his efforts, he was named the CatchMark SportsNet WMC Game of the Week “Player of the Game.”
ADDI HOVEY, Hart track and field
The Pirates sophomore shattered her personal and school record of 5 feet, 5.5 inches in high jump by clearing 5-11 during the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division meet Friday at Holton. That mark ties the 5-foot-10 Hovey for fifth nationally in girls high school high jump in the 2023 season. She also ran legs on Hart’s first-place 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams in the WMC Rivers meet.
CATHERINE KARBOSKE, Ludington track and field
The Orioles sophomore was a triple champion in West Michigan Conference Lakes Division championships Friday at Whitehall. Karboske recorded personal-bests in winning both hurdles events, going 17.37 seconds in the 100 hurdles and 51.69 in the 300 hurdles. She also took first place in pole vault with an effort of 8 feet, 6 inches.
KENDRA POSTEMA, Ravenna track and field
The Bulldogs senior raced to victories in the sprints during the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division meet Friday at Holton. Postema won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.98 seconds and she edged North Muskegon’s Abbie Wiegers in the 200 dash with a first-place time of 27.39. Postema also ran legs on Ravenna’s third-place 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.
JACOB SCHARP, Manistee golf
The Chippewas junior posted a pair of solid nine-hole rounds in helping his team take first place in a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division jamboree Wednesday at Ludington and in an event Friday at Reed City. Scharp shot 40 in placing second individually during the event Wednesday at Ludington. In Friday’s event at Reed City, he fired 37 to take first place.
JERRY WIEGERS, North Muskegon track and field
The Norse junior established two personal-bests in winning the 200-meter dash and 400 dash during the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division championships Friday at Holton’s Red Devil Stadium. He ran the 200 in a time of a 22.77 seconds and broke a school record in the 400 with a clocking of 50.07 seconds. Wiegers also ran the anchor leg on North Muskegon’s second-place 4×400 relay team (3:40.79).
